An Interview with Sam #VisionAI

Sam (#VisionAI) is an NFT artist currently minting artwork on the Cardano Blockchain. On October 1st he will be dropping his DeepVision project, an ambitious 10k drop of AI generated artwork examples of which you can see on this page.

We are really looking forward to the drop, and you can find the details in our NFT drop calendar.

Where are you from and what got you into art?
I’m from Canada and what drew me to art first were definitely video games. The artists who work in video games are very talented people.

DeepVision Art

Tell us about the DeepVision Project. How does the AI work, presumably you need to feed it images to work with?
The VisionAI project aims to show people what can be done with artificial intelligence in the field of art. The technology that is used for DeepVision is one called VQGAN+CLIP that works by interpreting text into images. A few thousand iterations can be performed on the same image so that the result is satisfactory for the AI and interesting to the eye. There is no image that is given, but a textual description that the AI aims to reproduce as an image.

AI generated art is becoming more and more popular, i’m thinking of Entheos and GanBOT on Cardano, where do you see the future of t his type of art?
I really feel like we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible with this type of technology. We can already see the reproduction of faces, real or not, which are indistinguishable from reality. So I think that what we will see in the next few years is difficult to imagine today.

What first made you decide to get involved with NFT’s and Blockchain art? Why Cardano?
What made me decide to take the plunge was the possibility of finally creating a comic book. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, but it’s a tough world out there for independent comics. So it all started with my first project (still ongoing) called The Cryptoverse. As for why Cardano, I can’t tell you why. I’ve been in the blockchain world for a long time, but the idea never occurred to me before. Probably a combination of multiple favorable factors at the time I started.

We are still very early to NFT’s on Cardano and NFT’s in general. Where do you see the NFT industry in 5 years time?
Some believe that we will evolve to leave the artistic aspect aside and focus on pure utility. Personally, I don’t believe that one will exist at the expense of the other and I certainly enjoy collecting all those brilliant pictures too much to let them disappear overnight. My pokemon card trading skills are finally serving me well after all these years. Gotta catch ’em all!

Who is your favorite artist(s) NFT or Non-NFT?
I think my favorite artist right now is Mosie-Marks (Twitter @MosieAlong). I have way too much money invested in his art to share it with my wife! He has a way of bringing a smile to my face and jumpstarting my imagination with the glowing colors he uses. Otherwise, I really generally like artists who are passionate about what they do. These people are usually better at translating their emotions into their art and that resonates with me.

What is the one piece of NFT art you wish you had purchased but missed out on?
I’ve been a fan of the Yummi Universe for a long time and I love the physical cards I got for being a collector. But I didn’t get into the game early enough. There are some “test” cards out there that are ridiculously rare which I wish I had bought back then.

What is your favourite NFT in your wallet?
I have several, but mainly all the Mosie-Marks pieces that use the dark red color predominantly on the piece have me dreaming. No idea why, but I love them so much.

If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be?
I’ll let you guess 😉

CNFT World would like to thank Sam for taking the time to do this quick interview and give us a little more insight into the art and artist. We’d encourage you all to do your own research on the DeepVision project and you can start by checking out Sam’s Twitter feed @gcuriom

  1. These look very interesting, I saw a preview gif on twitter and they look cool. Think i’ll try and mint a few of these, what resolution are the actual images? Are they printable if you wanted to hang them?

  2. It’s interesting that no image is given to the AI, but I guess it must have a bank of images to pull from or is literally creating the piece from scratch and text descriptions? Very interesting.

Is there a theme for the drop? Are they all kind of supernatural themed?
